It might first interest you to know that the most common piece of outboard gear being used by our subscribers is Yamaha's SPX90. Needless to say, since the SPX90 was first introduced, many other manufacturers have responded with more powerful processors, processors with simultaneous effects, 16-bit processing, and more. The SPX1000 is Yamaha's answer to the competition. It is a very healthy processor, and one we're likely to see popping up in studios everywhere for some time. Most obvious of the features are extended sample time (5.8 seconds), true stereo processing, and simultaneous multiple effects. The long sample time translates into added features in many of the programs. In the FREEZE programs (the digital sampling programs), you have a maximum recording time of 5.8 seconds. Three types of FREEZE programs are available, and all three programs allow recording and overdubbing with variable playback pitch. Sample start and end points can be set for editing purposes. This function also makes it possible to set a start point at the end of the sample and the end point at the start of the sample and get the sample to play backwards. FREEZE 2 adds the ability to set a loop point in your sample for looped playback. FREEZE 3 is a stereo sampling program. Sample time is cut in half (2.9 seconds) to accommodate simultaneous sampling of both left and right channels. The extended sample time also affects the DELAY L,C,R program. This delay is a little different from most in that it includes a third channel, the center channel. Delay time for each channel is adjustable from.1 milliseconds to 5.2 seconds. There are two feedback delay parameters for this program, each adjustable up to 5.2 seconds. Each feedback delay has a gain control to set the amount of repeats to follow the initial repeat. All these parameters make for an exceptional delay program with numerous possibilities for special effects. The STEREO ECHO program also takes advantage of the extended sample time and offers left and right channel feedback delays of up to 2.6 seconds along with an initial delay for each channel of up to 2.6 seconds. The reverb programs include HALL, ROOM, VOCAL, PLATE, ECHO ROOM, GATE REVERB, REVERSE GATE, and 3 EARLY REFLECTION programs. There is more than enough diversity in these reverb programs to handle any reverb need. Reverb time can be adjusted as high at 480 seconds. That's 480 seconds, not milliseconds! Various other parameters give you ample control over reverb characteristics. All bases are covered in the reverb section. RP500 VS. OTRAS PEDALERAS DIGITECH En esta tabla de Excel pueden encontrar una comparación de la RP500 con otras pedaleras multiefectos de Digitech en cuanto a cantidad de efectos y simuladores de cabina y amplificador. Muy útil si estamos dudando entre dos opciones de la misma marca a la hora de comprar. LA MEJOR MANERA DE UTILIZAR LA RP500 Mucho se ha debatido sobre este tema, pero creo que la conclusión podría ser:  "es cuestión de gustos, y depende de los aparatos con los que contemos". Esta pedalera sobresale por tener las mejores simulaciones de cabinas y amplificadores del mercado, por eso para mí la manera de conectarla y utilizarla debe siempre ir encaminada a explotar esta característica. Podríamos decir que hay básicamente dos formas de usarla: 1. Como "Stompbox" o caja de pedales separados Puede ser conectada directamente a la entrada del amplificador (Line In), y es ideal para usar los efectos separados activándolos y desactivándolos con los 5 switches que posee (Compressor, Distortion, Chorus/FX, Delay y Reverb). Lo ideal en este modo sería tener desactivado el simulador de cabinas y amplificadores, lo que se hace simplemente oprimiendo un botón (Amp/Cabinet Bypass). De esta manera se "respeta" el sonido y tono original del amplificador que estamos usando, y evitamos "doble amplificar" la señal, lo que limpia y mejora un poco el sonido general de la guitarra. Este método es ideal para aquellos que tengan amplificadores de tubos, pues sólo se suma a su sonido característico los efectos individuales que queramos, conservando su tono. 2. Como "Pedalboard" o pedalera multiefectos De esta manera se usan todas las características de la unidad, tanto los efectos como la simulación de cabinas y amplificadores, que es la principal y mejor característica de esta pedalera. La mejor manera de usarla con esta configuración es conectándola al loop de efectos del amplificador (en la entrada FX return), o conectarla directamente a un monitor, cabina o consola, para de esta manera reproducir el sonido simulado con la mayor fidelidad posible. Esta es la mejor manera de grabar directamente desde la pedalera al computador o a la consola (incluso usando el puerto USB con el que cuenta), y es un método ideal para los que cambian constantemente de equipos al tocar en salas de ensayo diferentes o al tocar en vivo con diferente amplificación cada vez, pues su sonido no cambiará mucho entre una configuración y otra. LOS PEQUEÑOS DETALLES QUE LA HACEN MUY BUENA Hay varias características muy particulares de esta pedalera que me gustan mucho, que no son muy relevantes pero que complementan muy bien todo lo que ofrece. Entre otras cosas, están: - Cuando enciendes la pedalera, el preset que aparece por defecto es el último que utilizaste. Es decir, si el último que usaste fue el #59 por ejemplo, al encenderla te arrancará en ese y no en el primero, como sucede en muchas pedaleras. - En el modo de pedalera, si presionas nuevamente el botón del preset que está activo, éste cambia al inmediatamente anterior que estabas usando. Por ejemplo, estás tocando en el preset 16 para la rítmica, y pasas al 18 para el punteo. Puedes devolverte al 16 pisando nuevamente el 18 sin necesidad de buscar el 16. Esto es muy útil a la hora de tocar en vivo, pues resulta más sencillo el cambio de preset sin mover tanto el pie y sin desconcentrarte de lo que estás tocando buscando con la mirada dónde pisar. Conozco pedaleras en las que si haces esto se pone en modo de tuner o afinador. Esto me parece fatal a la hora de tocar en vivo. Qué tal si pisamos donde no es? - La pedalera puede producir sonido en stereo de gran calidad aprovechando sus dos canales de salida (left y right). Esto enriquece mucho el sonido sobre todo cuando se usan delays, reverbs y chorus. - La señal de salida a través del puerto USB es stereo, lo que enriquece y fortalece el sonido aún más a la hora de grabar. - El proceso de grabación a través de la salida USB continúa aún eliminando todos los efectos (pisando Bypass). Es decir, puedes grabar otros instrumentos o voz en tu computador a través de tu RP sin necesidad de tarjetas de sonido. Puedes incluso grabar un bajo usando el preset que simula este instrumento, sin necesidad de tener uno, con buenos resultados. Cuando nos conectamos al amplificador a través del loop de efectos (FX Return), los controles de éste se desactivan completamente (volumen, ecualizador, etc.) y pasan a ser controlados exclusivamente por la pedalera. La RP500 se convierte en la jefe! Dato curioso: He tenido la oportunidad de tocar con un amplificador de tubos sin loop de efectos, y lo que hago es sacar la señal de la pedalera en el modo de "pedalboard" como si fuera para consola o mixer (oprimiendo el botón que se encuentra en la parte posterior). De esta manera el sonido no se satura, y el resultado es BRUTAL! De muy buena calidad! Recuerden: no hay una única manera de usar correctamente la RP500. Todo depende de nuestro gusto personal, y de los equipos con los que contemos.
